Common Types of Heart Diseases

Congenital cardiac heart diseases include:

  • Spetal defects: this is when there is a hole present between the chambers of the heart.
  • Cyanotic heart disease causes a shortage of oxygen in the rest of the body.
  • Obstructive heart disease in which there is a partial of full blockade in the chambers of the heart thereby obstructing the flow of blood to the rest of the body.

Coronary artery disease. Coronary heart disease is the byproduct of plaque buildup in the vessels that supply oxygen and nutrients to the heart. The buildup of plaque narrows and constricts the arteries which leads to a decrease in the supply of oxygen and nutrients to
the heart.

Arrhythmia. Arrhythmia is a problem of the heart characterized by irregular heartbeats. Heart beats can become irregular in multiple ways:

  • The heart may beat too fast otherwise known as tachycardia.
  • The heart may beat too fast otherwise known as bradycardia.

Myocardial infarction. Otherwise known as a heart attack, myocardial infarction or coronary thrombosis is the result of interrupted blood flow to the heart which in turn damages some part of the heart muscle. The typical cause of a myocardial infarction is when an artery suddenly narrows or goes into a spasm. Most of the time a heart attack is the cause of a blood clot in the any one of the coronary arteries.

Heart Failure. Heart failures occur when the heart fails to supply or pump blood properly to the rest of the body. One of the two sides of the heart stops working properly.
